ID y Sylw: 40973

GWRTHWYNEBU Mrs Angela Howells

Crynodeb:

There is proposed building of flats on the current hospital site.

If this goes ahead we will be totally overlooked and will lose all privacy to ourselves and our property.

There are also road safety issues as the road is currently very busy and any more traffic is unacceptable.

We will lose our hospital facilities which are well used and welcomed in this and the surrounding areas.

Site should be maintained and preserved for its historical value.

N.B. All reference to common land is an automatic objection. Land is protected by statute and in Wales consent is required from the Welsh Ministers at Welsh Assembly Government.

Crynodeb:

Clydach Hospital was paid for and built by the people of Clydach for the people of Clydach. Mr W J Percy Player and his family gave the land which the hospital is built on, free of charge for the purpose of providing the people of Clydach with a hospital. A covenant is in place with regard to the land, that it only be used for the purpose of a hospital. There is a strong following in Clydach that the hospital should remain a hospital. This covenant would make it illegal for the hospital ground to be sold.

Clydach Memorial Hospital belongs to the people of Clydach. It's the only place we have to remember the sacrifice our villagers gave to the both wars and the community's hard work in raising funds post war to build this memorial.

It would be a great blow to their memory.

Crynodeb:

I believe that Clydach Hospital should remain at the current site as it is needed by the people of Clydach. It allows the people to travel less for help than going to Morriston as some can't find their way to Morriston due to health issues. I currently use Clydach Hospital for blood tests and other treatment if required and being close helps me and I believe it lowers the waiting time and staff required in Morriston Hospital by allowing Clydach Hospital to do the treatment locally.

Clydach Hospital can be more than just a community hospital. But in time can be a medical asset, to Clydach and the surrounding areas.

There will come a time with our aging population that Morriston and Singleton will not be able to cope and thats when Clydach will come into its own.

GWRTHWYNEBU Mrs Mary R John

Crynodeb:

Clydach Hospital was built as a war memorial with help from the people of Clydach, donating money which was collected by supporters of the plan. I have been a patient for an operation, along with many others, the caring was excellent, it was a great disappointment when the hospital closed. Why build houses? when there is a need for a respite home in Clydach, I have been a patient in Fairwood, Earlsmoor and Gellinudd Hospitals. With Fairwood and Earlsmoor are now closed as well, where are patients going to convalesce?

Crynodeb:

It is deplorable that there will be a loss to Clydach of a building donated by the people of Clydach for the use of residents. Money raised by a great effort by the community.

Added to this is that the building was designated as a war memorial. Still used by the community on November 11th to hold a memorial service.

What of the expense recently spent to renovate the building as a multi-purpose use for the health authority. Surely with the ever increasing demands of the health service more use could be made to relieve Morriston e.g. out-patient facilities.

Crynodeb:

I fell very sad to head once again they are trying to close Clydach Hospital.

There is so much that can be done there - we are crying out for "Respite Care" homes.

I've got happy and sad memories of the hospital, being a church goers we'd have services for the patients on Whit Sunday and Rememberance Sunday which were always enjoyed by all.

The hospital was paid for by the people of Clydach and should be retained as a facility for the community.

Apart from the fact the memorial hospital is part of our heritage. My concern is the extra pressure on our sewerage system, which is a cause for serious concern, and parking problems and the extra volume of traffic more housing will create.

Crynodeb:

It was built as a hospital by the people of Clydach and therefore should be kept as such.

There are many facilities taking place in said hospital, so people would have to travel further afield to have treatment. Some people are elderly and might be able to travel, if the hospital should close.

Clydach Hospital is a war memorial hospital. It was built with support and money from the people of Clydach. Many men from Clydach were killed during, peoople lost their husbands, fathers, sone. No way should clydach hospital be pulled down to build houses.

I'd like to know what spark thought of this.

I'm sevety three I though the hospital was for the people of Clydach it should never have closed the wards we in Clydach need wards for respite care, my father was a collier and he donated every week towards it. I'm disgusted about the money that was wasted by removing good equipment.

Crynodeb:

Hospital building and heath services carried out within act as a permanent war memorial to those who died and were injured in the service of their country. Any change in use from servicing the health needs of the wider community will be seen as a desecration of it's original purpose.

The current local infrastructure, roads, parking and sewage in current form will be unable to sustain such a dramatic development.

This would be a massive publicity own-goal for the planning department. You can see the headlines in local and national press.

Find a use in keeping with initial intentions.

Having lived in Clydach all my life, and being told the history of Clydach Hospital by my parents of how the last generation worked hard to subscribe via their wages to create a hospital and over many years this building has served the community well (even now). So why have the powers that be decided that its now surplus to requirement? - what a load of rubbish.

Please, please don't turn the building into residential property e.g. flats, that will be disastrous.
